I am getting to wonder if we are not, actually, brainwashed by this Singularity thingy, maybe to serve the interest of its creators?

Anyway. Still.
What's interesting with the Singularity theory, is not the Singularity itself, but its mathematical tools that allow us to predict the evolution of Technology.
I am an optimist so I consider that Humans will merge with non-biological technology smoothly, without almost realizing it.
After all, it's the very nature of Humanity to transcend itself.

So, by definition, there's no more natural destiny for Humans than to merge with machines.

Nice post that you wrote. I believe as well that the singularity won't happen as a sudden phenomenon. It will just correspond to the mathematical integration of all the progress that is being made in terms of collaboration between humans and machines. As you said, we are already merging with machines and machines are already merging with us. We just won't be aware of the singularity, that point when super-intelligence will be created. But it assumes that we accept to merge with machines, which is not the case of everybody. So for people that don't want to be turned into cyborgs (that s a pity), the singularity might be a kind of scary.
In that case, I believe that we must make sure to create a friendly AI. And this is already being studied by the singularity institute for AI.
